NRC NAMES NEW SENIOR RESIDENT INSPECTOR AT
SEQUOYAH NUCLEAR PLANT NEAR CHATTANOOGA
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission has appointed Cale
Young to the post of Senior Resident Inspector at the Sequoyah Nuclear
Plant near Chattanooga, Tenn..
Young joined the NRC as a reactor engineer in the NRCs
Region IV Office in Arlington, Texas, in January 2005. He later held the
positions of project engineer and resident inspector at Arkansas Nuclear
One near Russellville, Ark. Prior to joining the NRC, Young served in
the U.S. Navys nuclear submarine service for eight years, and also
served as a senior instructor on the U.S. Naval Academys mechanical
engineering department faculty. Young holds a bachelors degree in
marine engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy and a masters degree
in nuclear engineering from Texas A&M.
Cale Young is a talented and dedicated professional with a strong commitment to
safety, said Region II Administrator Luis Reyes. He will work hard to help ensure that
Sequoyah continues to meets the NRCs high standards.
Each U.S. commercial nuclear power plant site has at least two NRC resident inspectors,
and three of the NRC-regulated fuel cycle facilities in the U.S. have at least one resident
inspector. They serve as the agencys eyes and ears at the facility, conducting inspections,
monitoring major work projects and interacting with plant workers and the public.
