STOLEN MOISTURE-DENSITY GAUGE At 7 a.m. (CDT) August 17, 1988, an employea discovered a moisture-density gauge (Troxler Model 3411-B) had been stolen from a construction trailer at a job site in Huron Township, Michigan.

The licensee said the trailer had been forced open and the gauge, containing two sealed sources--- 10 millictries of cesium-137 and 50 millicuries of americium-241--- was missing along with the gauge's bright yellow plastic storage case. The radiation levels at the surface of the case are less than 18 milliroentgens/ hour.

The gauge and storage case were last seen by an employee the afternoon of August 16, 1988.

The employee recalled that the case was locked to prevent unauthorized use.

The licensee reported the theft to Ann Arbor Police Department, and the Michigan Department of Health. The licensee is issuing a press release.

Region III (Chicago) is monitoring the licensee's course of action. '

The State of Michigan will be notified.
