'O NB PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION OF EVENT OR UNUSUAL OCCURRENCE--PNO-III-85-97 Date November 18, 1985 This preliminary notification constitutes EARLY notice of events of POSSIBLE safety or public interest significance. The information is as initially received without verification or evaluation, and is basically all that is known by the Region III staff on this date.

Notification of an Unusual Event Troy, MI Alert Site Area Emergency License No: 21-18668-01 General Emergency XX Not Applicable Subj:.ct: THEFT OF M0ISTURE-DENSITY GAUGE A Troxler moisture-density gauge containing 10 millicuries of cesium-137 and 50 millicuries of americium-241 was stolen from the licensee's trailer at a construction site in Taylor, Michigan the weekend of November 16-17.
The gauge presents no significant radiological hazard unless the sealed sources are cxpos:d. (There is no mechanism to lock the sources into the gauge.)
Th licensee has notified the Taylor, Michigan police department. It is unknown at this time whether the licensee plans to issue a press release. Region III (Chicago) is monitoring this event.
Th; State of Michigan has been notified.
