HEIGHTENED MEDIA INTEREST - BRUNSWICK UNIT 1 CORE SHROUD CRACKS l

While performing in-vessel visual examinations of the Unit I reactor vessel shroud in accordance with recommendations from the General Electric Co.,

a 360 degree circumferential crack was observed in the top guide support ring near the weld between the shroud and the ring j

(designated H-3 weld at this plant).

Carolina Power and Light Co., with 1

assistance from GE, is currently utilizing an automatic remote scanner to better size / examine the crack This activity has delayed the current I
