The information is as initially received without verification or evaluation, and is basically all that is known by Region II staff (Atlanta, Georgia) on this date.

UPDATE-VOGTLE UNIT 2 SHUTDOWN TO REPAIR RESIDUAL HEAT REMOVAL PIPE LEAK On December 16, 2005, the residual heat removal bypass line was satisfactorily repaired per ASME code repair requirements. The licensee determined the failure was due to a defect in the root pass of the weld.

The licensee examined 11 other welds on the residual heat removal bypass lines and determined they were acceptable.

The unit was restarted on December 18, 2005, and is currently at 25 percent rated thermal power.

Region II received this information verbally from the Licensee. This information presented herein is current as of 10:00 a.m., EST, December 19, 2005.
