Attachment NOC-AE-12002814 Page 1 of 1 STPNOC Response to Request for Additional Information On January 4, 2012, STP Nuclear Operating Company (STPNOC) submitted South Texas Project, Physical Security Plan, Training and Qualification Plan, and Safeguards Contingency Plan, Revision 12. The NRC staff has reviewed the information provided in STPNOC's Security Plan and determined that additional information is needed for the NRC staff to complete its review by NRC letter dated February 14, 2012. We contacted the NRC staff upon receipt of the Request for Additional Information and the staff provided additional clarification regarding their request.

NRC Request for Additional Information:

The languageprovidedin the Physical Security Plan does not provide a clear descriptionof illuminationat STP, Units I and 2, as requiredby 10 CFR 73.55(i)(6)(i) - (iii). You are requested to provide the following information:

1. Pleasedescribe how each lighting method employed at STP, Units I and 2, meets the requirements of 10 CFR 73.55(i)(6)(i) and (ii).
2. Pleasedescribe the use of any associatedalternativetechnology for each lighting method employed at STP, Units I and 2, that meets the requirements of 10 CFR 73.55(i)(6)(i) and (ii).

STPNOC Response:

The Physical Security Plan, section 15.1 describes the methods used at STP to ensure all areas of the facility are adequately illuminated. While the methods used at STP Units 1 and 2 are described in section 15.2, STP Nuclear Operating Company (STPNOC) recognizes, after further discussion with the NRC staff, that section 15.1 should clearly describe the normal illumination methods as well as the associated alternate technology that is used in implementing the protective strategy. The use of "or" in our description will be removed and we will make additional changes to clearly describe how 10 CFR 73.55(i)(6)(i) - (ii) are being met, including how we use low-light technology. This clarification to the South Texas Project, Physical Security Plan, Training and Qualification Plan, and Safeguards Contingency Plan is expected to be completed and submitted to the NRC for review by April 5, 2012.
