Dear Mr. Harris:
Southern Nuclear Operating Company (SNC) is providing an update regarding its intent to submit a Subsequent License Renewal Application (SLRA) for the Renewed Facility Operating Licenses for Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant (Plant Farley) Units 1 and 2, in accordance with Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Part 54, Requirements for Renewal of Operating Licenses for Nuclear Power Plants. This update is provided pursuant to RIS 200906, Revision 1, to support NRC planning and budgeting for anticipated license renewal application reviews.
By letter dated June 7, 2024 (ML24159A471), SNC notified the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) of its intent to submit the SLRA by the end of 2026. Regulatory Issue Summary 200906 Revision 1 (ML24018A240) describes the importance of providing advance notice of the intent to pursue license renewal and encouraged licensees to notify the NRC of any changes in the previously announced license renewal application submission date.
The purpose of this email is to provide the NRC with an updated submission date for the SLRA for the Renewed Facility Operating Licenses for Plant Farley Units 1 and 2. SNC now intends to submit the SLRA during the second quarter of 2027.
