Revised Resource Estimate - Farley FNP-ISI-ALT-2025 EPID L-2025-LLR-0025 Date:

Tuesday, December 30, 2025 8:57:00 AM

Wes,

By letter dated February 27, 2025 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML25058A186), as supplemented by letter dated October 9, 2025 (ML25282A075), Southern Nuclear Operating Company (SNC, the licensee) submitted Relief Request FNP-ISI-ALT-2025-10 (a proposed alternative) to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) for the Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant (Farley), Units 1 and 2. The proposed alternative request would extend the inspection exam frequency of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (ASME Code),Section XI, Rules for Inservice Inspection of Nuclear Power Plant Components, Subsection IWL-2500, Examination Requirements. Specifically, the alternative request would extend the inspection exam frequency of ASME Code Section XI Table IWL-2500-1 Examination Category L-B for item numbers L2.10, L2.20, L2.30, L2.40, and L2.50.

By email dated April 3, 2025 (ML25093A071), the NRC accepted the LAR for review and estimated that this LAR would take approximately 190 hours0.0022 days <br />0.0528 hours <br />3.141534e-4 weeks <br />7.2295e-5 months <br /> to complete and be completed by April 2, 2026.

The purpose of this email is to inform SNC that the NRC staff have changed the estimate for level-of-effort needed to complete this licensing action. The change in estimated hours is due to unforeseen complexities and the need to conduct a regulatory audit to complete NRC staffs review of the proposed alternative request. Based on our plan to conduct a regulatory audit for this licensing action request, an estimated 40 additional hours is estimated to complete the review (audit coordination and review activities, safety evaluation completion, etc.) The NRC staffs revised estimate for completing this review is 230 hours0.00266 days <br />0.0639 hours <br />3.80291e-4 weeks <br />8.7515e-5 months <br />.

These revised estimates are based on the items listed above, and could change, due to several factors including requests for additional information, and unanticipated addition of scope to the review.
