High Good morning, Johua In accordance with Oice of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Oice Instruction LIC-102, Revision 3, Review of Relief Requests, Proposed Alternatives, and Requests to Use Later Code Editions and Addenda (ML18351A218), eective today, November 25, 2025 and as discussed in the meeting at 8:30 am EDT, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) sta communicated its verbal authorization of the Request RA-25-0264 submitted by Duke Energy Progress (Duke), on November 17, 2025 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System Accession No. ML25321A755).
Duke requested an alternative to the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section XI, IWA-4000. Speci"cally, the licensee proposed to use the 2007 Edition with 2008 Addenda of the ASME Section III, NB-3200 Design by Analysis approach to demonstrate structural integrity of the subject valve until repair or replacement of the valve can be accomplished during the spring 2028 refueling outage which is scheduled to start on March 4, 2028.
Attached to this email is the script used for the NRC sta's verbal authorization, as provided by Matthew Mitchell and David Wrona. This e-mail will be added to ADAMS as a publicly available oicial agency record, documenting the sta's verbal authorization. The NRC sta's safety evaluation will be transmitted via separate correspondence within approximately 150 days.
