DIABLO CANYON NUCLEAR POWER PLANT, UNITS 1 AND 2 - SAFETY EVALUATION FOR THE LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION (EPID NO. L-2023-RNW-0021)
Dear Ms. Gerfen:
By letter dated November 7, 2023 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System Accession No. ML23311A154), as supplemented, Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) submitted an application for the renewal of Facility Operating License Nos. DPR-80 and DPR-82 for Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant (DCPP), Units 1 and 2, respectively, to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), pursuant to Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 54, Requirements for Renewal of Operating Licenses for Nuclear Power Plants.
The NRC staff determined that the DCPP license renewal application (LRA) was complete and acceptable for docketing as communicated by letter dated December 19, 2023 (ML23341A004),
and as noticed in the Federal Register on December 19, 2023 (88 FR 87817).
The NRC staff has reviewed the DCPP LRA and has developed the enclosed Safety Evaluation Related to the License Renewal of Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant, Units 1 and 2, hereinafter referred to as the Safety Evaluation (SE). The SE reflects the NRC staffs safety review of the LRA, as supplemented, through May 13, 2025.
The next milestone for this project is the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards Full Committee meeting.
