Wes, By letter dated April 28, 2025 (ADAMS Documents and Access Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML25118A329), Southern Nuclear Operating Company (SNC, the licensee) submitted a proposed alternative, Alternative FNP-ISI-ALT-05-13, to the inservice inspection (ISI) requirements of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (ASME Code)Section XI regarding acceptance testing per Section IWB-3142.2.

Speci"cally, pursuant to Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Part 50, Section 55a, Paragraph (z)(1) (10 CFR 50.55a(z)(1)), SNC is proposing to defer the performance of supplemental inspections per ASME Code Case N-722-1, Additional Examinations for PWR Pressure Retaining Welds in Class 1 Components Fabricated With Alloy 600/82/182 Materials, examinations per ASME Code Section IWB-3142.2 until Farley, Unit 2, next refueling outage 2R31.

To complete its review of the application, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) sta requests additional information (RAI) as discussed in the attachment to this email. On April 29, 2025, the NRC sta sent the draft RAIs to SNC for review to determine if a clarifying call was needed. SNC requested a clarifying call, which was held on April 29, 2025. SNC stated that it would respond to the RAI immediately.

The RAIs for Farley, Unit 2, proposed alternative request are documented below and are released formally with an expedited response period requested. The expedited response period is needed to meet SNCs requested licensing action completion date of April 30, 2025.
