Response to NuScale Topical Report Audit Question Question Number: A-FSR.LTR-38 Receipt Date: 10/14/2024 Question:
Spacer Grid Growth, starts in 6.5.2.1 and finishes up in 6.5.3.4. What is the source of the information in Table 6-15 (corrected to 6-17)? What was the increase for the fresh fuel and why was that selected?
Response
The NuScale fuel design uses the HTP spacer within the fuel stack region of the fuel assembly. Framatome GAIA' fuel, for Westinghouse reactors, uses this type of spacer grid. [
]
The fuel rod pitch for the fresh fuel assemblies is increased to be the same as the pin pitch for spent fuel (with grid growth), as described in Section 6.5.3.4 of the fuel storage rack design topical report: [
] This modeling approach is used because the criticality model assigns all fuel assemblies the same geometric dimensions.
No changes to the LTR are necessary.
