Announcement - Notification of Receipt of the Draft Connecticut Agreement Application Date:
Monday, April 8, 2024 7:01:00 PM Good day,
Im Dee Morgan, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Tribal Liaison Program Manager and ccd on this email is Senior Health Physicist, Duncan White and Intergovernmental Liaison, Huda Akhavannik. Duncan and Huda are the lead reviewers for Connecticuts application to enter into an agreement with the NRC that would grant the state authority to license and inspect byproduct, source, or special nuclear materials used or possessed within their borders.
The purpose of my outreach today is to notify you that by letter dated February 2, 2024 (ADAMS Accession No. ML24051A129), the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection submitted its draft application for Agreement to the NRC. The NRC staff will conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the States Agreement material program to determine the State's ability to regulate Atomic Energy Act of 1954 (AEA), as amended, radioactive materials under the Agreement. This review typically requires a considerable amount of time. Information regarding the status of the State of Connecticuts request to pursue an agreement with the NRC and the draft application can be found at: https://www.nrc.gov/agreement-states/connecticut/agreement.html.
Should you have questions regarding the NRC Agreement State Program, please feel free to contact Duncan or Huda.
- Thanks, Dee
