5 Meeting Purpose

  • The NRC is actively soliciting comments to aid the staffs review
  • Public comments are sought at specific points during the meeting
  • No regulatory decisions will be made at todays meeting

6 U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission - An Independent Regulatory Agency NRC MISSION We license and regulate U.S. civilian use of radioactive materials, protecting public health and safety, promoting the nations common defense and security, and protecting the environment.

STATUTORY AUTHORITY Atomic Energy Act of 1954 Energy Reorganization Act of 1974 split the Atomic Energy Commission into the NRC and the predecessor of the Energy Department.

7 Browns Ferry Subsequent License Renewal

  • The current Renewed Licenses for each of the units expire December 2033 for Unit 1, June 2034 for Unit 2, and July 2036 for Unit 3
  • If a license renewal is granted, it will be for an additional 20 years for each license
