3.2.2.7 IntermediateHeatExchangerTubeBreak Acompletebreakofoneintermediateheatexchanger(IHX)tubeoccurs.Thepositivepressure differencemaintainedbetweentheprimaryloopandintermediateloopforcestheprimaryFlibecoolant intotheintermediateloopandmixeswiththeintermediatesaltcoolant.Thesymptomsofthetube breakaredetectedbythereactorprotectionsystemwhichinitiatescontrolandshutdownelements insertion,fulfillingthereactivitycontrolfunction.Thehighestworthelementisstuckoutanddoesnot insert.Thereactorprotectionsystemalsoinitiatesaprimarycoolantpumpandintermediatecoolant pumptripstolimitBeNaFingressintothereactorvessel.Thereactordecayheatremovalsystem performsitsfunctiontolimitreactortemperatureandfulfilltheheatremovalfunction.Aconservative amountofFlibeisassumedtoflowintotheintermediatelooptomixwiththeintermediatesalt.This amountisassumedtobethesameorboundedbythevolumeofFlibespillduringapostulatedpipe breakevent.ThecoreresponseanddoseconsequenceduetolossofFlibeintotheintermediateloop duringanintermediateheatexchangertubebreakisboundedbythoseofapipebreakduringsaltspill postulatedevent.SmallleaksintheIHXwillbedetectedvialimitsonallowableleakthreshold(e.g.,
