SUMMARY

OF AUGUST 9, 2023, PUBLIC MEETING TO DISCUSS UPDATES SPECIFIC TO SECTION 3.2.4 DEGRADED AND UNANALYZED CONDITION REPORTING WITHIN NUREG 1022, "EVENT REPORT GUIDELINES 10 CFR 50.72 AND 50.73."

On August 9, 2023, a public meeting was held between the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff and stakeholders. The purpose of this meeting was to discuss updates specific to Section 3.2.4 Degraded and Unanalyzed Condition reporting within NUREG-1022, Revision 3, Event Report Guidelines 10 CFR 50.72 and 50.73 (ADAMS Accession No. ML13032A220).

Public stakeholders, including many industry representatives, met with the NRC staff to discuss Section 3.2.4 of NUREG 1022, on reporting of degraded and unanalyzed conditions. NRC staff also provided a brief overview of ongoing efforts related to the rulemaking for 10 CFR 50.72(b) non-emergency reporting requirements. The NRC staff stated that the discussion and proposed edits were not to be considered regulatory decisions associated with the NRC guidance in NUREG-1022. The public will be provided with an opportunity to comment on the draft guidance document as part of the normal guidance update process. The staff expects to issue a supplement to the NUREG with clarifying changes near the first quarter of 2024.

A list of attendees is available in the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) at Accession No. ML23270B929.
