SUBJECT:

NUSCALE TOPICAL REPORT STATISTICAL SUBCHANNEL ANALYSIS METHODOLOGY, SUPPLEMENT 1 TO TR-0915-17564-P-A, REVISION 2, SUBCHANNEL ANALYSIS METHODOLOGY, TR-108601, REVISION 2, REVIEW SCHEDULE LETTER UPDATE

Dear Ms. Fosaaen:

By letter dated December 30, 2021, NuScale Power, LLC (NuScale) submitted Topical Report (TR) "Statistical Subchannel Analysis Methodology, Supplement 1 to TR-0915-17564-P-A, Revision 2, Subchannel Analysis Methodology," TR-108601, Revision 0 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML21364A132) for acceptance review.

On February 24, 2022, U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff requested supplemental information (ML22053A142) be submitted to complete the acceptance review. On April 25, 2022, NuScale submitted Statistical Subchannel Analysis Methodology, Supplement 1 to TR-0915-17564-P-A, Revision 2, TR-108601, Revision 1 (ML22115A221) which updated the revision of the topical report with the requested supplemental information. On May 4, 2022, the staff completed its acceptance review and established the safety review schedule with the milestone to provide an advance safety evaluation report (ASER) to NuScale for proprietary material review by January 23, 2023 (see ML22115A190).

By letter dated December 13, 2022, NuScale submitted Statistical Subchannel Analysis Methodology, Supplement 1 to TR-0915-17564-P-A, Revision 2, TR-108601, Revision 2 (ML22347A313). This new revision updated significant technical components of the TR that required the NRC staff to send a revised schedule letter (ML22350A029) updating the existing schedule and milestone for the ASER to June 16, 2023.

Following the establishment of the revised milestone, the staff, while preparing the safety evaluation, requested clarifying TR revision material. NuScale provided this material on June 16, 2023, which has now required the staff to consider another update to the schedule. This new schedule (verbally agreed to via a clarification call on June 28, 2023) calls for the NRC staff to provide NuScale with the ASER for proprietary material review by October 31, 2023. The review has currently used 830 out of 1,075 staff-hours. No additional new hours are expected.
