PALISADES NUCLEAR PLANT - NOTIFICATION OF THE AVAILABILITY OF THE POST-SHUTDOWN DECOMMISSIONING ACTIVITIES REPORT IN THE FEDERAL REGISTER (EPID L-2022-LRO-0073)
Dear Pierre Oneid and Kelly Trice:
On December 23, 2020, Holtec Decommissioning International, LLC (HDI) submitted to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) a letter enclosing the Post-Shutdown Decommissioning Activities Report (PSDAR), which includes the Site-Specific Decommissioning Cost Estimate, for the Palisades Nuclear Plant (Palisades), contingent upon the transfer of the Palisades operating licenses to HDI. The PSDAR has been made publicly available in the NRCs Agencywide Documents Access and Management System at Accession No. ML20358A232. The Palisades license transfer transaction closed on June 28, 2022 (ML22179A075), allowing the NRC staff to begin the review of the HDI PSDAR for Palisades.
Accordingly, the purpose of this letter is to inform you that the NRC staff published a notice in the Federal Register of receipt and availability of the Palisades PSDAR and informing the public of a meeting to discuss and accept comments on the PSDAR. This notice was published on August 26, 2022, and is available at 87 FR 52598. It is the NRC staffs intention to hold this meeting in person and in the vicinity of the Palisades site on Thursday, September 22, 2022, from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Central Time at the South Haven campus of Lake Michigan College, located at 125 Veterans Boulevard, in South Haven, Michigan. Additional details regarding the Palisades PSDAR public meeting will be made available on the NRCs public website at https://www.nrc.gov/pmns/mtg as they become available.
