SUBJECT:
REVISED REVIEW SCHEDULE FOR THE NUSCALE POWER, LLC, TOPICAL REPORT METHODOLOGY FOR ESTABLISHING THE TECHNICAL BASIS FOR PLUME EXPOSURE EMERGENCY PLANNING ZONES, TR-0915-17772, REVISION 2 (DOCKET NO. 99902043)
Dear Ms. Fosaaen:
By letter dated August 4, 2020, NuScale Power, LLC, (NuScale) submitted Topical Report (TR)-0915-17772, Methodology for Establishing the Technical Basis for Plume Exposure Emergency Planning Zones, Revision 2 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML20217L422) for the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staffs review. By letter dated April 2, 2021 (ML21084A123), the NRC staff informed you that Revision 2 of the TR was accepted for review and provided the updated schedule and resource estimates.
NuScale and the NRC staff have been working to resolve the remaining open item regarding seismic risk related to a request for additional information (RAI) issued in April 2021 (ML21116A110). The regulatory audit that the staff initiated at the end of November 2021 to discuss specific details related to the NRCs approach and options, was extended to March 31, 2022 (ML21349A368) and to April 29, 2022 (ML22094A057), per mutual agreement. By letter dated December 23, 2021 (ML21348A004), the staff communicated the review status update; however, the staff did not include a proposed schedule or resource estimates to complete the NRCs review of this TR.
In an email dated February 10, 2022 (ML22042A016), we informed you that we will provide a timeline for finishing our review after we complete our evaluation of the path forward for the remaining issues.
NuScale submitted the response to RAI 9828 (ML22161A993) and Revision 3 (ML22161B009) of the TR to the staff on the docket on June 14, 2022. The NRC staff has now completed its initial evaluation of select topics and NuScales proposed approach to resolve the remaining issues via the audit and expects to complete its review and issue the advanced safety evaluation with no open items to the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards by August 1, 2022. The staff does not anticipate needing additional resources beyond the 3,000 hours0 days
0 hours
0 weeks
0 months
already committed to.
If you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact Alina Schiller, Project Manager, at (301) 415-8177 or Alina.Schiller@nrc.gov.
Sincerely,
/RA/
