NORTH ANNA AND SURRY POWER STATIONS UNITS 1 AND 2 REQUEST FOR APPROVAL OF APPENDIX E OF FLEET REPORT DOM-NAF-2-A MODELING ERROR CORRECTION By letter dated February 11, 2021 [Serial No.21-042 (ADAMS Accession No. ML21042B321)], DENC and Dominion Energy Virginia (collectively, Dominion Energy) submitted Appendix E, "Qualification of the Framatome BWU-I CHF Correlation in the Dominion Energy VIPRE-D Computer Code," to Fleet Report DOM-NAF-2-A for NRC review and approval. Subsequent to that submittal, an error was identified in the VIPRE-D model for the WES162 test section that supports the BWU-I Experimental Database. The error results in VIPRE-D ignoring mixing vane grids in the top half of the fuel assembly within guide tube cells.

The modeling error has been corrected, and the VIPRE-D/BWU-I code/correlation limit has been recalculated with the corrected local conditions resulting in a 95/95 DNBR limit of 1.22. The recalculated limit is less than the 95/95 DNBR limit of 1.23 that was provided in our original submittal; consequently, the 1.23 limit remains conservative and bounding following correction of the modeling error. As a result, Dominion Energy's request for NRC approval of the 95/95 DNBR limit of 1.23 is unchanged.
