SUMMARY
By letter dated June 18, 2021 (ADAMS Accession No. ML21195A395), Savannah River National Laboratory (Savannah River Nuclear Solutions) requested the renewal of U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Certificate of Compliance (CoC) No. 9979, for the Model No. 9979 Type A Fissile radioactive material shipping package.
By letter dated August 26, 2021 (ADAMS Accession No. ML21256A273), Savannah River Nuclear Solutions, LLC requested a change to the certificate holder from Savannah River Nuclear Solutions to Battelle Savannah River Alliance, LLC.
There have been no changes to the package since the last issuance of the CoC. The certificate has been renewed for an additional five years.
EVALUATION Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) requested renewal of CoC No. 9979 without changes to the package design, operating procedures, acceptance tests, and maintenance program of the package. SRNL separated from Savannah River Nuclear Solutions, LLC, on June 21, 2021, and, on that date, Battelle Savannah River Alliance, LLC became the new management and operating contractor of SRNL from the U.S. Department of Energy. By letter dated August 26, 2021, Battelle Savannah River Alliance, LLC stated it will assume all responsibilities of the CoC holder.
CONDITIONS The following changes have been made to the certificate:
Item No. 3.a was modified to reflect Battelle Savannah River Alliance, LLC, as the CoC holder.
Condition No. 13 was modified to reflect the new expiration date of the certificate.
CONCLUSION The certificate has been renewed for a five-year term. These changes do not affect the ability of the package to meet the requirements of 10 CFR Part 71.
