Submittal of Revised Chapter 9 of Framatome Inc.s (Framatomes)
Richland, Washington Fuel Fabrication Facility; License No. SNM-1227; Docket No. 70-1257.
Enclosed with this letter is a revised Chapter 9 of SNM-1227. This chapter change was made on June 12th 2021, and includes changing the ground water sampling analytes from total gross alpha/ beta to isotopic uranium and Tc-99 and changes wastewater management system to wastewater management system(s). Isotopic uranium and Tc-99 are the specific isotopes of concern relative to potential ground water contamination from fuel fabricating processes.
Please note that other fuel fabricating licensees also use these specific analytes in lieu of total gross alpha/beta. The other change relative to wastewater management system(s) is simply a clarification that Framatome has several subsystems that encompass the wastewater management function.
SNM-1227 section 1.2.4.11 authorizes Framatome to make these types of minor changes without prior NRC approval provided a copy of the change is provided to the Director, Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards, with a copy to the appropriate NRC Regional Office, within six months after the change is made. This letter with the accompanying attachment fulfills this requirement.
