Dear Mr. Wells:
By letter dated February 25, 2021 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System Accession No. ML21056A623), Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) submitted a license amendment request (LAR) for the Watts Bar Nuclear Plant (Watts Bar), Unit 2. The proposed amendment would revise the Watts Bar Nuclear Plant dual-unit Updated Final Safety Analysis Report to apply a temperature adjustment to the growth rate calculation used to determine the end-of-cycle distribution of indications of axial outside diameter stress corrosion cracking at tube support plates in support of the Watts Bar, Unit 2 operational assessment.
By email dated March 10, 2021 (ADAMS Accession No. ML21074253), I informed you of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commissions (NRC) results of the acceptance review. In that email, I stated that the NRC staffs estimated level of effort would be 250 hours0.00289 days <br />0.0694 hours <br />4.133598e-4 weeks <br />9.5125e-5 months <br /> and that it could complete the review by May 19, 2021, which is TVAs requested date. The completion date was based on the issuance of a request for additional information (RAI) by April 2, 2021, and a response from TVA by April 16, 2021. During a clarification call regarding the draft RAI, TVA requested a 30-day response time. Subsequently, TVA requested an additional 2 weeks to respond to the RAI in order to consider the results of causal analysis. The NRC staff did not object to the additional 2 week request. As a result of these circumstances, the NRC now estimates that it can complete its review by June 30, 2021. If circumstances change, I will communicate the status and any changes in the estimated level of effort or completion date and the reason for the change.
