SUMMARY

OF MEETING WITH U.S. GEOLOGICAL SURVEY CONDUCTED MARCH 30, 2021 (EPID NO. L-2020-PPM-0000)

On March 30, 2021, an Observation public meeting was held between the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff and representatives of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) via webinar. The purpose of this meeting was to discuss a proposed license amendment request (LAR) by USGS staff to increase the possession limits for special nuclear and byproduct material used in reactor based experiments, to separate material irradiated in fueled experiments, and to add facility space to the licensed area. The meeting notice and agenda, dated March 25, 2021, are available in the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) at Accession No. ML21084A470. The USGS staffs presentation used in the meeting is available in ADAMS at Accession No. ML21091A236. A list of meeting attendees is provided as an enclosure to this summary.

During the public meeting, USGS staff provided an overview of their proposed LAR, and responded to questions from the NRC staff. A question concerning the license amendment review process was received from a representative of the Office of Congressman Ed Perlmutter, and the NRC staff responded.
