__________ x 225 ppm = _____ ppm (Number of stuck rods > 1)

Candidate identifies that the incorrect value of full length control rods beyond one was recorded for this calculation.

AND Circles 3 in red pen. (ERROR #1)

AND Identifies that the calculated value for this step is not correct.

AND Circles 675 in red pen. (ERROR #2)

AND Documents 2 for full length control rods beyond one and 450 for calculated value in red pen.

S U Comment:

Evaluator Cue: Provide cue to Candidate to determine and document the correct values in red pen adjacent to the errors identified.

Evaluator Note: Per Initial Conditions three control rods were not fully inserted, therefore, 2 should have been recorded for number of stuck rods > 1 and 450 should have been recorded for final ppm value.

CRITICAL STEP

NRC EXAM MATERIAL Page 5 of 16 Palisades April 2020 Proc.Step TASK ELEMENT 2 STANDARD Grade 1.02 DETERMINE the required Shutdown Boron concentration using the current Core Burnup for the desired Plant Condition from either of the following:

  • Duty Station Manager's Book
  • Technical Data Book, Figure 1.2 Candidate reviews the Required Shutdown Boron concentration value is recorded as 1400.

S U Comment:

Evaluator Note: Per Initial Conditions - core burnup is 9000 MWD/MTU and PCS temperature is 514oF; the Technical Data Book was used; and Candidate uses the <525, 2% delta rho curve to determine required boron concentration.

CRITICAL STEP Proc.Step TASK ELEMENT 3 STANDARD Grade 1.03 DETERMINE Refueling Boron concentration Technical Data Book Figure 1.1.

Candidate reviews that the Refueling Boron concentration from Technical Data Book Figure 1.1 is recorded as 2807.

S U Comment:

CRITICAL STEP

NRC EXAM MATERIAL Page 6 of 16 Palisades April 2020 Proc.Step TASK ELEMENT 4 STANDARD Grade 1.04 ADD boron requirements for stuck control rods and required Shutdown Boron concentration.

a. Stuck control rod boron requirement (Step 1.01): = _____ ppm
b. Required Shutdown Boron concentration (Step 1.02): + _____ ppm
c. Final required boron concentration:

= _____ ppm Candidate identifies that the incorrect value is recorded for Stuck control rod boron requirement.

AND Circles 675 in red pen. (ERROR #3)

AND Documents 450 as correct value in red pen.

AND Reviews that 1400 is recorded for Required Shutdown Boron Concentration.

AND Identifies that the incorrect value is recorded for Final required boron concentration (due to the error carried forward from step 1.01).

AND Circles 2075 in red pen. (ERROR #4)

AND Documents 1850 as correct value in red pen.

S U Comment:

Evaluator Cue: Provide cue to Candidate to determine and document the correct values in red pen adjacent to the errors identified.

CRITICAL STEP

NRC EXAM MATERIAL Page 7 of 16 Palisades April 2020 Proc.Step TASK ELEMENT 5 STANDARD Grade 1.05 SUBTRACT latest PCS boron concentration from final required boron concentration.

a. Final required boron concentration:

_____ ppm

b. Latest PCS boron concentration:

- _____ ppm

c. Required boron change:

= _____ppm Candidate verifies that 1850 is recorded as the Final required boron concentration.

AND Verifies 1000 is recorded as the Latest PCS boron concentration.

AND Verifies that 850 is recorded for the Required boron change.

Comment:

Evaluator Cue: PRIOR TO THE PERFORMANCE and REVIEW OF THIS STEP, provide cue that the errors in step 1.01 and 1.04 have been corrected by the Performer. The correct Final boron concentration of 1850 has been entered in step 1.05.
