INADVERTENT SPRAY OF WATER INTO CONTAINMENT BUILDING During conduct of a surveillance test on the containment spray system while the reactor was shutdown, between five and ten thousa'nd gallons of nonradioactive borated water (no sodium hydroxide) were inadvertently sprayed inside containment. The apparent cause was operator error--
improper valve lineup.
l The licensee is reviewing the effect of the spraying of this water on safety systems. The only problems identified are instrument noise on Reactor Loose Parts Monitor System and the Seismic System. These are being corrected.
A Region I Inspector is on site reviewing the adequacy of the Licensee's action.
Media interest is expected because of close attention given to opera- I tions at the Indian Point Site. The State of New York has been informed. l A press release is not planned. A delay in their scheduled starcup is not anticipated.
