Bulletin 79-15 alerted licensees of deep draft pump deficiencies reported by Commonwealth Edison Company.
NRC review of licensees' responses was documented in contractor report NUREG/CR-3049, At the time of our bulletin r6sponse, pump run times at the river water alternate intake structure were limited to the period required to determine operability during surveillance testing.
A recommendation made in NUK'G CR-3049 was that Beaver E
Valley should perform an extended run of the alternate intake system of approximately 48-72 hrs. in duration.
This letter is to confirm that extended operation of the alttinate intake system did occur in August 1981, with Beaver Valley at full powell when the system was used to supply river water cooling for (60) sixty hours during dredging operations near the normal intake structure.
This information should close out the Duquesne Light Company response to I.E.
