SUBJECT:

APPROVAL OF THREE-MONTH EXTENSION FOR STATION EMERGENCY RESPONSE. ORGANIZATION (SERO) TRAINING AT THE HADDAM NECK PLANT (TAC NO.M99015) i

Dear Mr. Mellor:

)

By letter dated February 10,1998, Connecticut Yankee Atomic Power Company (the l licensee) was granted a three-month extension for SERO training. The extension was requested because the licensee had focused on Defueled Emergency Response Organization (DERO) training in preparation for their Defueled Emergency Plan (DEP), but approval of the DEP had been delayed.

By letter dated March 25,1998, the licensee provided additional information with respect to the proposed DEP for the Haddam Neck Plant. Along with the information provided in the letter, the licensee also requested an additional three-month extension in conducting training of the SERO. By letter dated April 30,1998, the licensee provided information to )

demonstrate that the training performed and scheduled remains adequate to support the SERO. The extension of training for the SERO was requested by the licensee because approval of the DEP by the NRC has been delayed. 4 The on going training efforts the licensee has performed and scheduled provides sufficient basis for granting an additional three-month training extension. Therefore, the licensee's request for an additional three-month training extension is granted, Sincerely, ORIGINAL SIGNED BY:
