Thank you fe,r your letter dated April 24,1998, concerning inquiries from Long Island residents about the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's (NRC) consideration of the proposed restart of the Millstone Unit 3 nuclear reactor and your request for a public hearing on Eastern Long Island.

The NRC staff will be pleased to participate in the session you have scheduleo on May 26 on Eastem Long Island. The staff will discuss NRC policies and requirements related to emergency preparedness and the NRC's review and assessment of Northeast Nuclear Energy Company's activities related to possible restart of Millstone Unit 3.
