Dear Sir:
This letter follows my notification by telecopier and letter of June 19th in which I requested a public hearing on Combustion Engineering's request to modify its license (License No. SNH-33, Docket No. 70-36).
This letter shall serve to reiterate my timely request for a public hearing in this matter and to allege with more amplification the reasons vny a hearing is warranted in this matter.
As the state senator representing this area, and as a landowner, lifetime county resident and avid fisherman of the Joachim Creek (which runs behind the facility), I am very familiar with this plant and it physical layout.
I would like to stress that the lack of information on t.his matter to date is problematic.
I am making no accusations or complaints, but we must have all relevant facts on the table and in front of the people so as to allow the proper public j
confidence if this matter is approved.
4 Hany' residents of Jefferson County have expressed reserva-1 tions about the application.
We want to ensure that everything possible is done to protect the citizens and environment of Jefferson County, l
The information available to me at this point and informa-l tion available to the citizens of this county, is insufficient j
to make a reasonable judgment about the application.
I request that the information be presented in a public forur. here in Jefferson County.

Specific questions which should be addressed include:
Will there be increased output of radiation, and if so, what are the potential impacts on health ans environment?
i I
What will be the effect of approval of the applica-tion upon water quality?
i Will there be any-change in transportation pat'cerns?
Will'the volume of waste produced at the plant increase?
How much?
Where will this waste be taken for disposal?
Will the facility have storage capacity sufficient to store waste if it is unable to use its usual disposal site?
Is there a danger of increased accidents with the changed and increased capacity?
Is an accident more likely to be more serious with the proposed changes?
How will emergency procedures be revised?
Will the modifications require changes in local
..aergency response capability?
These questions must be answered if the public is to accept Combustion Engineering's proposal.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely, Jeremiah W.
