SAFETY EVALUATION REPORT, APPLICATION DATED JUNE 16, 1989, t RE: REVISION OF LICENSE CONDITION NO. 8 AND THE ORIGINAL LICENSE APPLICATION
Background
Tennessee Valley Authority is licensed under NRC Materials License No. SNM-1861 to receive, possess, inspect, and store uranium enriched in the U-235 isotope contained in fuel assemblies and loose rods. .In the subject application, the licensee has submitted a request to revise Condition 8 and update the original license application dated June 8, 1979.
Discussion The June 16, 1989, application reflects revisions made to the original license application, including changes which have resulted from reorganization and previous license amendments. When Amendment No.12 was issued on October 31, 1988, the license was revised in its entirety; however, Condition No. 8 was revised incorrectly. Amendment No. I allowed a maximum amount of 2,600 kilograms of U-235 contained in up to 193 fuel assemblies and in up to 100 fuel rods rather than the 1,900 kilograms and 130 fuel assemblies stated in Amendment No. 12. Thus, staff recommends revision to Condition 8.
Conclusions / Recommendations Staff finds that the proposed revisions will have no adverse effect on the public health and safety or on the environment. Approval of the amendment application is recommended. The Office of Special Projects, Region II, has no objection to this action.
