.In your letter dated March 29, 1989, asisupplemented May 17, 1989, you provided the results of the Brunswick; Steam Electric Plant (BSEP), Units 1 and 2,

' SAFER /GESTR 'LOCA analysis that was performed by the General Electric Company.

You requested staff approval of'the methodology for use at BSEP. The. approval of the methodology.will enabic,CP&L to reference its applicability in future technical' specification' changes and serve as a revision to the BSEP LOCA licensing basis.

ThestaffhascompleteditsLreviewofthesubmittal. As a result of this review, the staff concludes that the analyses and results are in accordance with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) requirements and demonstrate conformance with the ECCS acceptance criteria of 10 CFR 50.46 and Appendix K to 10 CFR Part 50. SAFER /GESTR - LOCA can now be used to provide a revised LOCA licensing basis for both Brunswick units and can be referenced in future licensing submittals.
