Docket No. 50-309 Mr. C. D. Frizzle, President Maine Yankee Atomic Power Company 83 Edison Drive Augusta, Maine 04336

Dear Mr. Frizzle:

SUBJECT:

REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR CLOSE0VT OF IE BULLETIN 79-15 (TAC No. 74540)

A review of our records indicates that IE Bulletin 79-15 " Deep Draft Pump Deficiencies," dated July 11, 1979, has not been properly closed out for the three Byron Jackson containment spray pumps for your facility. Although this issue was previously closed out for your facility by an inspection report, NUREG/CR 3049 (published in November 1983) concluded that the issue was still open for these pumps at your facility. The following additional information is required for us to complete our review of this issue.

1. The type and application of the pumps listed above.
2. Drawings, sectional assemblies and parts list of the subject pumps.
3. Applicable P& ids of the subject pumps. q 41 Detailed maintenance history of the subject pumps.
5. Testing requirements, procedures and results for both hydraulic and vibration parameters in recent years for the subject pumps.

Please provide this information within 60 days of the receipt of this letter.

The reporting and/or recordkeeping requirements of this letter affect fewer  !

than ten respondents; therefore OMB clearance is not required under PL 96-511.

Sincerely, Original signed 09 Eric J. Leeds, Project Manager Project Directorate I-3 Division of Reactor Projects I/II ,
