'this office from May 9 through June 29, 1989, of activities at the Zion

Nuclear Generating Station, authorized by Licenses No. DPR-39 and

No. DPR-48, and to the discussion of our findings with Mr. T. Joyce at

the conclusion'of.the inspection.

Th enclosed' copy of our inspection report identifies areas examined during

the nspection. Within.these areas, the inspection consisted of a selective

l examination of' procedures and representative records, observations, and

interviews.with personnel.

During this: inspection, certain of your activities appeared to be in violation

of NRC requirements, as-specified in the enclosed Notice. With respect to

Item 1, the inspection showed that action had been taken to correct the 1

identified violation and to prevent recurrince. Our. understanding of your

corrective actions are described in Paragraph 12 of the enclosed inspection

report. Consequently, no reply to the violation is required and we bove no

Lfurther' questions regarding this matter at this time. Regarding the remaining'

,

items, a written response is required. '

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the Commission's regulations, a copy of

this. letter, the enclotures, and your response to this letter will be.placed

in' the NRC Public Document Room,

subject to the clearance procedures of the Office of Management and Budget as

required by the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1980, PL 96-511. t
