Virgil C. Summer Nuclear Station Docket No. 5/395 Operating License No. NPF-12 40-Year Operating License Gentlemen:
South Carolina Electric & Gas Company (SCE&G) is in receipt of the NRC request for additional information dated April 20, 1989, dealing with the proposed operating license extension to 40 years from date of license issuance. The request, in conjunction with discussions with the NRC Project Manager, indicates that significantly more detailed information is now required by the NRC in order to review the proposed license change. The content of the previous SCE&G submittals on this issue was based on the review of other licensing submittals and NRC Safety Evaluation Reports, and the currently requested information is significantly more detailed in scope than was originally expected to be required. As suggested by Mr. Steven Varga during our telephone conversation on May 16, 1989, we would welcome the opportunity to meet with the NRC staff to discuss the scope and level of detail for the requested information.
Due to the importance of this issue to SCE&G, every effert will be made to provide expeditiously the requested information. Your cooperation and assistance in maintaining a high level of priority in resolving this item is greatly appreciated.
