Limerick Generating Station, Units 1 and 2 Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station, Units 2 and 3 Response to Generic Letter 89-06, " Task Action Plan item I.D.2-Safety Parameter Display Systein"
Dear Sir:
P'.iiladelphia Electric Company has completed a review of Generic Letter 89-06 corscerning the implementation status of the Safety Parameter Display System (SPDS) at our nuclear facilities. After review of NUREG-1342, and with the aid of the checklist provided with Generic Letter 89-06, I certify we have determined the status of the SPDS is as follows:
Limerick Generating Station Units 1 and 2 The SPDS at Limerick Unit 1 meets the requirements of NUREG-0737, Supplement 1 taking into account the guidance provided in NUREG-1342.
Limerick Unit 2 is currently in its startup testing program. The SPDS-at i.imerick Unit 2 will meet the requirements of NUREG-0737, Supplement I taking into account the guidance provided in NUREG-1342 when it is declared operational, i.e., within 30 days after the 100-hour warranty run. The rationale for this operational date is discussed in a letter from Kemper (PE) to Murley (NRC) (Docket No. 50-353), dated December 5, 1988.

Review checklists have been completed confirming the foregoing.
Arrangements have been made to provide supporting photographs by August 25, 1989.
Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station Units 2 and 3 Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station has not yet fully implemented the requirements for the SPDS as provided in NUREG-0737, Supplement 1.
In a letter dated August 24, 1987 (Gallagher (PE) to Butler (NRC)),
Philadelphia Electric Company provided the NRC with a schedule for completion of the SPDS at the Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station. This letter stated that the SPDS would be completed following the third refueling outage after 1985 for both Units 2 and 3.
Based on the outage schedules at that time, this translated to a 1990/1991 completion date. However, due to extended outages at both Units, the third refueling outage after 1985 now translates to completion dates of July 1992 for Unit 2 and June of 1991 for Unit 3.
These dates are based on our currently planned outage schedules.
By the dates identified above, the SPDS at Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station Units 2 and 3 will be in full compliance with the requirements of HUREG-0737, Supplement 1, taking into account the guidance provided in NUREG-1342.
In the interim, an analog based SPDS, which has been reviewed and approved by the NRC (letter from Gears (NRC) to Bauer (PE), dated March 12,1986), is in use at the Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station Units 2 and 3.
Review checklists pertaining to the pennanent computer based SPDS have been completed. Photographs of the existing interim analog based SPDS will be completed by August 25, 1989.
