c MAR 171989 Docket No. 50-456 Docket No. 50-457:
Mrs. Thelma L. Corbin R. R. 2,_ Box-117
'Wilmingtun, IL.60481-i Dear.Mrs. Corbin.
L In response to your inquiry concerning possible offsite effects of the operation of the Braidwood Generating Station, Dr R. B. Holtzman of my-staff.
_ col.lected well water samplesion April 7, 1988, at the following locations:
City.of Braidwood, Well No. 1 City of Braidwood, Well No. 2 City'of Braidwood, Well No. 3 E
Corbin Farm, shallow drinking water well
.j Corbin Farm, deep wash; water _well Corbin Farm, sand point irrigation well
-The samples were submitted to the'NRC Reference Laboratory,.the Radiological and Environmental Sciences' Laboratory.(RESL), Idaho Falls, ID, operated.by the United States Department of Energy. Some analyses of.these samples were also performed in our own laboratory..No radionuclides associated with the operation-of-a nuclear power plant were detected in any of these samples. The.
laboratory analyses-were sufficiently sensitive to detect activity at concentrations as low as'one tenth the level permitted by'the EPA in community water _ supplies.
The April 7 samples were mistakenly discarded'before analyses for the naturally-occurring radionuclides in the radium-226 and radium-228 series were performed. Therefore, on January 24, 1989 Dr. Holtzman collected additional samples from the City of Braidwood Well No. 3-(Wells No. 1 and 2 were under
. repair and could not be sampled at that time) and from your farm for reanalysis. 'You will be informed of the results of these analyses by subsequent letter.
