PROGRAMMATIC AUDIT AT ARKAl'SAS NUCLEAR ONE, UNIT 1 (TACNO.68199) t .

As you'arel aware, the. NRC' staff has determined that a series of audits is necessary to verify the proper implementation of the Babcock & Wilcox 0wners Group (BWOG)Lsafety and performance improvement program (SPIP) recommendation.s at each B&W designed facility. This audit series consists of'a programmatic audit, an implementation audit, and a followup audit, if'necessary. The.

. programmatic audit for' Arkansas Nuclear One, Unit 1-(ANO-1) is planned for September 12-14, 1989.

,The purpose of the programmatic audit is to evaluate the adecuacy.'of'your program toLimplement the BWOG SPIP technical recommendations. Included in the.-

audit will be a review of the dispositioning of selected recommendations from incorporation into the Recommendation Tracking' System to final closecut. The scope of this review will include recommendations that have been implemented, are in the process of being implemented, or have been rejected or deemed not applicable to ANO-1.

We' request that'you make a brief presentation at the start of the audit to

, familiarize the audit team with your program and organization. Also, we request that knowledgeable personnel be made available to assist the team in

. gathering information and answering questions.

It is anticipated that the audit will commence with an entrance meeting at 8:30 -a.m. on -Tuesday, Septenber 12, 1989, and conclude with an exit meeting at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 14, 1989.
