August 15, 1989 Docket'No. 50-285 iMr. Kenneth J. Morris Division Manager - Nuclear Operations-Omaha Public Power District 1623 Harney Street Omaha, Nebraska 68102

Dear Mr. Morris:

SUBJECT:

VENDOR INTERFACE FOR REACTOR TRIP SYSTEM COMPONENTS GENERICLETTER83-28, ITEM 2.1(PART-1)(TACNO.52839)

In. our letter to you dated February 15, 1989, we stated that Part 1 of Item'2.1 for Generic Letter 83-28 was previously closed as stated in our letter dated May 10, 1988. However,.in further review, we find that this statement was in error since this May 10 letter addresses the closure for Part 1 of. Item 2.2.

Therefore, the enclosed Safety Evaluation with the assistance of our contractor, EG&G Idaho'Inc. and their report (EG&G-NTA-7305 enclosed), addresses our findings with respect to Part 1 of Item 2.1 for the Generic Letter 83-28.

Based on our review, the staff has determined that your responses for this item are acceptable. We, therefore, consider Item 2.1 (Part 1) of the generic -

letter to be closed by this action. Additionally, with the previous closure of Part 2 as stated in our letter of February 15, 1989, all actions with regards to Item 2.1 for the Fort Calhoun Station are closed.

Sincerely,

/s/

Anthony Bournia, Project Manager Project Directorate IV Division of Reactor Projects - III, IV, V and Special Projects Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation
