- 3...s MEMORANDUM FOR:
Thomas W. Bishop, Director j
I Resident /ReactorProjects and Engineering Programs Region V FROM:
Robert L. Baer, Chief Engineering and Generic Communications Branch Division of Emergency Preparedness and Engineering Response Office of Inspection and Enforcement
SUBJECT:
PALO VERDE NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION WESTINGHOUSE LPSI AND CS PUMP MOTORS.
Thank you for you memorandum dated April 25, containing the information which we had requested. We note that Region V has executed a Task Interface Agreement to resolve the overall question of LPSI pump performance, as part of the nper-ating license review. No doubt any questions related to the pump problems will be resolved under the TIA.
We note that the three Palo Verde units are the only Combustion Engineering (CE) System 80 units still in construction. The only active CE unit which has not received an operating license is Waterford 3, which although a CE plant, is of a different design.
Thus, we see no generic implications to i
the situation and plan no further action.
We have discussed this with the NRR LPM, E. Licitra, and he has agreed to advise us if any generic implications appear during the NRR review.
