Dear Mr. Cowan:

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff has completed its review of the Florida Power Corporation (FPC) response to NRC Generic Letter (GL) 97-05, " Steam Generator Tube Inspection Techniques." The focus of GL 97-05 was to verify that licensee steam generator tube inspection practices were consistent with existing regulatory requirements and plant licensing bases. FPC subrnitted a response to this GL on March 17,1998, that included a description and technical basis for allinspection techniques used to size the depth of steam generator tube degradation at Crystal River Unit 3 (CR-3). The staff's review of this response did not identify any concerns with the steam generator tube inspection techniques employed at Crystal River that would indicate non-compliance with the current licensing bases for CR-3. Therefore, we i
consider GL 97-05 to be closed for your facility. We thank you for your prompt and complete response.
If you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact me at (301) 415-1495.
Sincerely,
/s/
