TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY CH ATTANOOG A. TENNESSEE 37401 SN 157B Lookout Place DEC 281987 TVA-SQN-TS-87-43 10 CFR 50.90 U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Attn: Document Control Desk Hashington, D.C. 20555 Gentlemen:

In the Matter of ) Docket Nos. 50-327 Tennessee Valley Authority ) 50-328 SEQUOYAH NUCLEAR PLANT (SQN) - TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION (TS) CHANGE 87-43

Reference:

TVA letter to NRC dated August 14, 1987, "Sequoyah Nuclear Plant (SQN) - Technical Specification Change 87-36" In the referenced letter, TVA requested a TS change to surveillance requirement 4.6.2.1.b to identify testing requirements for the containment spray pumps. A revision to the supporting calculations indicated that the proposed change was overly conservative. To avoid confusion, TS 87-36 is being withdrawn and resubmitted as TS 87-43 so that the correct testing requirements for the containment spray pumps are identified.

In accordance.with 10 CFR 50.90, we are enclosing a requested amendment to licenses DPR-77 and DPR-79 to change the TS of SQN units 1 and 2. The proposed change will establish new testing requirements for the containment spray pumps in order to demonstrate pump operability.

The proposed TS change is identified in enclosure 1. The justification for the proposed TS change is provided in enclosure 2. A proposed determination of no significant hazards consideration performed pursuant J to 10 CFR 50.92 is provided in enclosure 3.
