OPERATING DATA REPORT DOCKET NO: 50-344 DATE: March 1987 COMPLETED BY: F. J. Ulmer TELEPHONE: 503-556-3713 The plant began the month at full power and continued at full power until March 20, 1987 when the plant began coasting down in power by about 1.5% per day in preparation for 1987 Refueling Outage.

During the first part of the month the plant received the balance of 48 new Region M fuel assemblies needed for Cycle 10 reload.

During the period extensive preparations continued for major outage projects such as main condenser and moisture separator reheater replacement, steam generator maintenance, refueling, and numerous plant design changes.

An immediate report was made to the NRC on March 9, 1987 concerning the analysis of postulated flooding in the plant's Turbine Building due to rupture of the circulating cooler system piping. As a result of a review of previous analyses that assumed the failure of two cooling water lines in the circulating water system, the preliminary determination was made that water might not be released quickly enough from the building through vents to prevent the flooding of safety equipment in the building. The building siding was already removed from the building for condenser replacement when this preliminary determination was made; thus, there is no concern with operability. Evaluation is still underway, and no permanent corrective action will be planned until final studies have been completed in April.

On March 19, 1987 during day shift, a high voltage power supply was being disconnected from a radiation monitor when it come in contact with the 120 volt power supply to the monitor. This caused a fuse to blow resulting in loss of power. The loss of power effected several radiation monitors and resulted in a voltage dip on preferred instrument bus Yll. The voltage dip resulted in several controllers shifting from auto to manual and the loss of one intermediate and power range nuclear instrument. The fault was repaired promptly and all systems were returned to service.

The plant received the new moisture separator reheaters (MSR) and new condenser modules to be installed during the 1987 Refueling Outage.

At 2000 on March 31, 1987 the plant began a power reduction from 85% to 30% in preparation for the complete shutdown and commencement of the 1987 Refueling Outage on April 1, 1987.

The primary-to-secondary steam generator tube leakage remained less than one gallon per day and the secondary condensate ,

oxygen remained at about 3 ppb for each train. The reactor i coolant system dose equivalent icdine concentration remained constant at about 12% of the specification limit. l MAJOR SAFETY RELATED MAINTENANCE

1. 'B' train ESP outage for planned maintenance and testing was completed.
2. 'B' train spent fuel pool exhaust system charcoal filters were replaced and the system tested satisfactorily.

Work continued on the 'A' train of the spent fuel pool exhaust.

MISCELLANEOUS MAINTENANCE Rebuilt and returned to service the non-safety electric auxiliary feedwater pump.

l LICENSE CHANGES Amendment 124 was issued to revise the Trojan Surveillance Requirements to reflect a change in the actuation logic for component cooling water system valves. This revision is consistent with guidance provided in NRC Generic Letter 83-10d dated February 8, 1983, regarding resolution of TMI Action Item II.K.3.5.

Amendment 123 was issued to revise Trojan Technical Specifi-cations to allow rod control cluster assemblies to be positioned at greater than 225 steps versus 228 steps as previously required.

MISCELLANEOUS During this month the NRC performed an audit of the onsite Quality Assurance Group, an audit of the P-250 safety parameter display system computer, and an Administration audit.

Also, during the month the plant held Radiological Emergency Response Plan drills for the Operational Support Center (NRC witnessed), the Technical Support Center, the Emergency Operations Facility, the Company Support Center, and the Control Room.
