SUBJECT:
TELECON WITH DUKE POWER COMPANY'S MANAGEMENT REGARDING THE NUCLEAR SERVICE. WATER DESIGN - CATAWBA NUCLEAR STATION, UNITS 1 AND 2 At about 4:30 pm on August 7, 1987, B.J. Youngblood (NRC) called _M. McIntosh (Duke Power Company) to inform him that: (1) the staff has issued a letter dated August 7,1987, pursuant.to.10 CFR'50.54(f), to Duke Power Company regarding the Nuclear Service _ Water System Design at Catawba Units 1 and 2; the staff's concern was related to the application of GDC 5 and 44 and the potential single failure of an NSWS valve; furthermore, the staff'is requesting that Duke provide, within 10 days from the date.of the letter, a justification for continued operation; M. McIntosh was also informed that the letter is being immediately telecopied to Duke; and (2) B.J. Youngblood requested that Duke Power Company notify the NRC Incidence Response Center, within one hour, of any situation when out of the four diesels is out-of service because this occurrence would put the Catawba plant in an analyzed condi tion, i 6\\
