Box 330 Manchester, New Hampshire 03105 Gentlemen: Subject: Inspection No. 50-443/87-18 This letter refers to the reactive inspection conducted by Mr. H. Gregg of this office on June 22-:26, 1987, at Seabrook Station, Unit 1, Seabrook, New Hampshire. Mr. H. Gregg discussed the findings of the inspection with Mr. J. Martin and other members of your staff at the conclusion of the inspection. The objective of this inspection was to review your activities related to the problems you have encountered with the service water butterfly valves and your repair efforts relating to these valves. Areas examined during thic inspection are described in the NRC Region I I Inspection Report which is enclosed with this letter. Within these areas, the
inspection consisted of selective examinations of procedures and representative i records and reports, interviews with personnel, observations and measurements of disassembled valve parts, and observations of the in process valve cycle testing by the inspector. Within the scope of this inspection, no violations were observed. The service water valve repair activities have not been completed and NRC will continue to monitor your repair efforts until completion. No reply to this letter is required.
