SAFETY EVALUATION RELATING TO CENERIC LETTER 83-28, ITEM ?.1 (PART 2) FOR TMI-1 (TAC 52889)

The purpose of this letter is to document our review of your efforts to satisfy the requirements of Generic Letter 83-28, item 2.1 " Equipment Classification and Vendor Interface (Reactor Trip System Components)," for TMI-1.

In Generic Letter 83-28, Item 2.1 (Part 2), the licensee was required to confirm that they have established an interface with either the NSSS or with the vendors of each of the components of their Reactor Trip System. The response was to also confinn that this interface program includes periodic communication between licensee / applicant and the vendor and a system of positive feedback which confirms receipt by the licensee / applicant of transmittals of technical information. You have responded and our review of the responses as documented in the enclosed contractor's report (EG&G-NTA-7756) finds the responses to Generic letter 83-28, Item 2.1 (Part 2) to be acceptable. The enclosed SE documents our concurrence with the contractor's findings and also finds your responses for this item to be acceptable. We, therefore, consider Part 2 of item 2.1 to be closed by this action. This action closes Item 2.1 entirely and also closes TAC No. 52889 because Generic letter 83-28, Item 2.1 (Part 1) was previously closed by our SE dated July 21, 1987.
