IMPLEMENTATION OF COMMISSION ACTION - PHYSICAL PROTECTION OF SPENT FUEL AND HIGH-LEVEL RADIOACTIVE WASTE - FINAL RULE By memorandum dated April 3,1998, the Secretary of the Commission indicated that the Commission has approved the final rule on physical protection for spent fuel and high-level radioactive waste (SECY 98-024).
Please implement the Commission's action by arranging for publication of the attached final rule in the Federal Reaister with an effective date of 180 days from publication.
Attached is a marked-up copy of the Federal Reaister notice showing Commission requested and other changes for transmittal to the Office of the Secretary.
Also attached is a Congressional letter package for transmittal to the Office of Congressional Affairs and two copies of the public announcement 'or transmittal to the Office of Public Affairs.
l In addition, attached are copies of the final regulatory analysis and NUREG 1619, " Standard Review Plan for Physical Protection Plans for the Independent Storage of Spent Fuel and High-Level Radioactive Waste" for transmittal to the Public Document Room. Thank you for your assistance.
