EXTENSION OF INSPECTION SCHEDULE NMP1 CORE SHROUD CRACKS (TAC No. M99720)

By letter dated February 27,1998, and several supporting letters, Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation has requested that the NRC authorize extending the inspection interval for the cracks in the Nine Mile Point 1 core shroud welds from 10,600 hot operating hours to 14,500 ho operating hours.^ Currently, the 10,600 hours0.00694 days <br />0.167 hours <br />9.920635e-4 weeks <br />2.283e-4 months <br /> is projected to be reached during November 1998.

The requested extension has been of considerable interest to local officials, organizations, and members of the local public. Accordingly, support is requested for the following proposed tasks and schedule:

Sept.1 Complete technical reviews and draft SERs Week of Sept 7 Public meeting with licensee, followed by meeting with public, near site (RI to make arrangements.~ Technical support to be provided by EMCB, SXRB, PDI-1, and RI)

Oct.1 Complete and issue SERs to PDI-1 Nov.1 issue letter to licensee on extension request Please confirm your attendance with me, so that meeting arrangements and scheduling may b initiated promptly. Continuing operation of the plant is contingent upon this approval; therefore,

. adhering to this schedule is a must for us to meet our objective.
