SUBJECT:
TEMPORARY WAIVER OF COMPLIANCE FOR TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION 3.5.G.2 RE: DISCHARGE PIPE PRESSURE FOR HPCI/RCIC (TAC NOS. 66344 AND 66345)
Dear Mr. Butterfield:
By letter dated October 6,1987, Commonwealth Edison Company (CECO, the licensee) requested a temporary waiver of compliance from Technical l
Specification (TS) 3.5.G.2 which requires a certain discharge pipe pressure band for systems specified in TS 3.5.G.I.
This letter also provided an applicable amendment request and safety evaluation. The NRC staff reviewed CECO's submittal and issued a temporary waiver of compliance, also dated October 6,1987, for the Quad Cities Nuclear Power Station (QCNPS).
Compliance with TS 3.5.G.2 was waived at QCNPS for 60 days to provide the staff with enough time to issue a formal TS amendment.
However, since then, CECO has requested a revision (dated November 24,1987) to their original submittal based upon subsequent discussions with the staff.
Consequently, the temporary waiver of compliance for TS 3.5.G.2 is hereby extended for another 60 days. This should allow the staff sufficient time to process the licensee's supplementary submittal (i.e. renotice in Federal Register with associated 30 day comment period).
Sincerely,l Is Gary Holahan, Assistant Director for Regions III and V Division of Reactor Projects - III, IV, V and Special Projects cc:
