November =24, 1987 Docket No. 50-382 Mr. J. G. Dewease Senior Vice President - Nuclear Operations Louisiana Power and Light Company 317 Baronne Street, Main Unit 17 New Crleans, Lousiana 70112
Dear Mr. Dewease:
SUBJECT:
SHOULDER GAP EVALUATION FOR CYCLE 3 AND SUBSEQUENT CYCLES.
(TAC N0. 65959)
License condition 2.C.7 of Operating License No. NPF-38 for the Waterford Steam Electric Station Unit 3 requires that adequate shoulder gap be provided in the fuel element assemblies for each cycle of operation.
By letter dated July 24, 1987, Louisiana Power and Light Company (LP&L) submitted a shoulder gap evaluation demonstrating that adequate shoulder gap would be provided.in Cycle 3 and subsequent cycles.
The staff has reviewed LP&L's shoulder gap evaluation and concludes that LP&L has demonstrated that the fuel element assemblies will have sufficient available shoulder gap clearance for Cycle 3 and subsequent cycles.
License condition 2.C.7 is, therefore, considered to be closed.
Details of the staff's review are contained in the enclosure Safety Evaluation.
If you have any questions, please contact me at (301) 492-9403.
